NIE Donation Q & A
Newspapers In Education (NIE) is a program that places a “living” textbook, the Edwardsville Intelligencer, into the classrooms of over 20 schools in the area. Teachers and students use the newspaper in a variety of ways for the many subjects taught in school. NIE benefits everyone—teacher and student, parent and child, business owner and customer—for it brings a real-world supplement into the classroom. To read more about the benefits of NIE click here.
What does it mean to donate to Newspapers In Education? Donating to NIE means that you have now become a partner with the Edwardsville Intelligencer and each classroom teacher and student that we supply newspapers to on a daily basis. Because we offer NIE to educators at no cost to them or the schools, your donations help cover the cost of printing and delivering the newspapers to schools, purchasing curriculum materials and teacher guides for educators, and sending teachers to NIE workshops. You have literally become a partner in the education of the future of our community!
Why should I and/or my business donate to NIE? By donating to NIE, you are placing a valuable learning tool into the hands of our community’s future. Newspapers in the classroom have proven to increase standardized state and national test scores, and newspapers show students that real-world events do have an impact on their lives and the lives of those around them. Many people involved in NIE become better, more active citizens in the communities they live.
Businesses who donate to NIE will receive valuable “good-will” recognition in the Intelligencer. We will promote your business as a good corporate citizen concerned with and actively seeking to help improve the quality of education in our community. Your company name or logo will be featured on a variety of “Thank You” ads that will be placed in the newspaper, on this website, and within the schools that participate in the program.
Individuals who donate, whether through individual donations or vacation newspaper donations, will also see their name in our “Thank You” ads, per their permission
